The 1st or Root Chakra, the Muladhara (sometimes spelled as mooladhara) is considered by many to be the most important Chakra (although we know they are all important, right?) because it is the Chakra that connects us to our physical world. Located at the base of our spine, it is the root chakra that governs over our physical energies, giving us a sense of safety and security with other people and ourselves.
It is important to balance this chakra first before balancing the others, from an energetic stand-point, as it is widely believed that this is where we draw our life force energy from (see kundalini reiki). If you are not properly grounded (or rooted into the ground) you simply can not balance the other chakras properly.
IF YOUR ROOT CHAKRA IS IN BALANCE:
You will feel secure in your world and daily tasks will seem effortless. You will not have any doubts about your place in the world and things will work for you, whether it be with relationships, money or with a career. You will work with the world and not against it!
OVER ACTIVE ROOT CHAKRA:
If the root chakra is over-active you may experience anger, annoyance and even aggression towards people and events in your life. Greediness and controlling others and becoming aggressive to those who challenge your “authority” may be a problem. You might become dependant on the security from other people, your job, or specific habits and because of this you will have very rigid boundaries – making it very difficult for you to accept change. You may also become very materialistic or impulsive and think that your value or self worth exists in having such things. Problems with an over-active sex drive may arise due to the over-activeness of the root chakra.
UNDER ACTIVE ROOT CHAKRA:
If your root chakra is under-active you may feel disconnected from the world around you, including from your body. You will feel disorganized and consequently this will reflect in your world. You will lack focus and discipline and you may even become afraid, anxious or restless in your daily interactions. You will probably experience a lack of stamina, depression or desire to do or to want anything out of life. You will have trouble obtaining financial security and will find yourself with no, or very little boundaries.
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF AN IMBALANCE:
Weight-loss/gain, over or under active sex drive, poor immune system, anemia, depression, laziness, irritable bowel syndrome are all possible physical symptoms of an imbalance within the root chakra.

Chakra Balancing with Tibetan Singing Bowls and Solfeggio Harmonics:
Also known as the 2nd, Navel or Sacral Chakra, the word Svadisthana is Sanskrit for “dwelling place of the Self”. This is the chakra that rules our physical manifestation, is the seat of our creativity and it’s balance determines how we see ourselves in the physical world. It is this chakra that allows us to experience our true desires, and to see the world as a magical and profound place! It governs our self worth and our relationships with others. It is located on the spine just below the navel.
WHEN IN BALANCE:
Your feelings flow freely and you can express yourself without any problems! You have great self confidence, you know your strengths and can handle anything that life throws at you. You have no problems with your sexuality, and are very much open to intimacy (you certainly don’t shy away from it!). You have a Great Passion for Life and want to live it to it’s fullest, experiencing every day as a gift from God.
OVER ACTIVE SACRAL CHAKRA:
If you have an over active Sacral Chakra you may tend to be over emotional, creating drama over people or events that happen in your life. You’ll probably have an unhealthy emotional attachment to people and will become out-of-sorts if someone doesn’t show up on time or if your plans don’t work out. Sexual addiction may be a problem if you are in a relationship or not taking proper caution with your partner(s). Mental, emotional or physical tension of muscles will be another sign that things aren’t in balance.
UNDER ACTIVE SACRAL CHAKRA:
If your Sacral chakra is under active you may experience a fear of pleasure and deny yourself from the things that can make you feel good! (And you’ll make up any excuse not to have something you really want). You will probably lack creativity, feel sluggish, lazy or suffer from chronic fatigue disorder and have a weak sex drive. “Fitting in” with people may rule your daily interactions and you will find it hard to be your true or authentic self. You’ll find that trying to stand out requires the necessary energy that comes from a properly functioning naval chakra. You can’t manifest what you desire because your thoughts and emotions tend to lean towards negativity.
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF IMBALANCE:
An unbalance in this chakra may manifest as aches or pains in the lower abdomen with irregular menstration cycles or bladder, urinary and kidney infections. More serious conditions are infertility, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, pre-menstral syndrome, testicular or prostate disease.

~SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA~
The Solar Plexus or 3rd chakra, the Manipura is located just above the naval and below the rib cage. It is our energy center and it radiates vital life energy (prana) through-out our entire body. It is where our Will Power comes from; our ability to achieve, self-esteem, raw emotions, and self-discipline are all governed by the Manipura. It is where we can have a mental understanding of our emotional self.
The Manipura not only governs the emotional and mental aspect of your psyche but also your psychic experiences. Often a feeling of intuition or “gut feeling” in a certain situation will benefit you greatly if you listen to it. All aspects of the digestive tract, including the assimilation of nutrients are controlled by the 3rd Chakra.
When this Chakra IS In Balance:
You will be in complete control over your emotions and thoughts. Your ego mind, or small mind will have no unwanted influence over your actions. You will know without a doubt, and accept your place in the Universe, have self-love and, in turn, have a great appreciation for all the people in your life and the uniqueness that they bring to world. When in tune, your Solar Plexus will radiate warmth and joy through-out your entire being, and to others who come into contact with you.
Over-Active Solar Plexus Chakra:
If your chakra is over-active you may be judgemental or critical – and you will easily find fault in others. You may be demanding and have extreme emotional problems, being very rigid or stubborn (it’s either your way or no way). Often anger, or aggressiveness result from an over-active chakra. You may always be planning to do things, but never doing, and your work or interests become a priority over things you have to do (a workaholic). You may also be a perfectionist and can’t settle on something that is already good enough, it always has to be better.
Under-Active Solar Plexus Chakra:
If this chakra is under active it can cause severe emotional problems. You may have a lot of doubt and mistrust towards the people in your life, and worry too much about what other people might think about you. You may also run on “auto pilot” avoiding your feelings of depression or anxiety; you may feel afraid or alone when you start to look at what you have been avoiding. You also may feel that you are not good enough and be seeking a constant approval of others, this can lead to a need, or dependency on the people in your life.
Physical Symptoms of a Solar Plexus Imbalance:
Poor digestion, weight problems, ulcers, diabetes, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, arthritis, pacreas, liver or kidney problems, anorexia, bulimia, hepatitis, intestinal tumours, colon disease.

Yellow Candles, wearing the color yellow, or surrounding yourself with pictures of yellow things can begin to bring this chakra into balance. You will feel a warm glowing from the Manipura when this begins to happen!

~HEART CHAKRA~ (The Anahata)
Also known as the 4th or Heart Chakra, the Anahata is our energy center from which love, joy, happiness and compassion emanate from. It also allows us to feel sorrow, sadness, anger, and lust, all of which are feelings of the lower heart chakra – but essential in understanding ourselves in this World, so that we may over come them and move to the Higher Heart, where Pure, Unconditional Love exists.
It is the chakra of yang, or positive energy, connecting the lower chakras to the higher ones and is very important in your spiritual healing and spiritual development. When it is open fully, the Heart Chakra becomes what the Buddhists call Mahakaruna, A Channel for Universal Compassion–Our True Self. It is here where we invite this Infinite Love to flow through us, allowing it to heal ourselves and others. The lesson of the Heart is that we first must Love and Accept ourselves before we can Love Others.
BALANCED HEART CHAKRA:
When your heart chakra is in balance you will feel a great compassion for all living creatures, and will recognize their amazing intelligence! You will be kind, caring, understand, joyous and outgoing, feeling completely at ease with yourself and the people in your life. You will understand others and accept them for who they are; you will not judge or be critical of their actions. Spending time alone is something you do not mind, and you are not rushing into one relationship after another, in fact, you would rather wait for the “right” one to come to you–because you know it will come to you when the time is right.
OVER ACTIVE HEART CHAKRA:
If your heart chakra is over active you will be ruled by your emotions; sadness, anger, grief, despair, greediness and happiness will come over you with no or little control. You may be manipulative, over critical, and judgemental of yourself and others. Your love may have conditions, “I will only love you if you are this way….” and you are more likely than not a “people pleaser”, afraid that you will not be liked or accepted by others around you. You may find yourself in a relationship with a partner where you are always giving but not receiving, always forgiving, and “cleaning up” after them, whether it be emotionally, or physically. Co-dependancy can result from this, and you may find it hard to let go, of any relationship, that no longer serves your Highest Good.
UNDER ACTIVE HEART CHAKRA:
When your heart chakra is under-active you will probably be very negative in your thinking, and may find it very difficult to keep a positive out-look in life. You may feel unloved, unworthy and unappreciated, and this will manifest in the world around you, only confirming these “beliefs” about yourself. It is very likely that with an under-active chakra that your choosing the people you love, and the people you do not love. You have a hard time trusting others, and may have a difficult time “letting” them in, keeping yourself at a distance.
Physical Symptoms of a Heart Chakra Imbalance:
If you have an imbalanced heart chakra you may experience the following symptoms that have manifested in your body:
Heart Palpitations, chest pain, poor circulation, high/low blood pressure, and in more serious cases, heart attack.

~THROAT CHAKRA ~
The 5th, or Throat Chakra, the vishuddha (or vishuddhi) is the centre that governs our speech and creative expression in the world. It’s balance will determine how honest you are, and how well you can express yourself with the people around you. It is through this chakra that we speak our choices and through this, we discover that our choices, no matter how small or unimportant that they may seem, have consequences. It is located at the base of the throat, in the V that is formed in the center of the collarbone.
Known as the center of purification, this is where energy becomes transformed into our manifestations in the physical world. Depending on how clear or muddied this chakra is will determine our successes or failures in life. Feelings of guilt or lies will easily “clog” the vishuddha, so it is important that we clear it out by speaking our internal truth.
Irritation towards others, and voicing of that irritation causes an imbalance within all of our chakras. We must begin to change the way we view people, focusing on their positive aspects rather than the negative, or what’s “wrong” with them. We must learn to appreciate people for what they bring to our reality, rather than what they lack, or do wrong.
IF YOUR THROAT CHAKRA IS IN BALANCE:
You will have no problem expressing yourself in the world! You will be very creative, helpful, and may be good at offering people sound advice when it is asked for. You know what you want out of life and you are not afraid to ask for it, and what you ask for always seems to come to you with no, or little effort on your part! You are not afraid to express your weaknesses and people respect you for this. You are truly free when you can speak your truth.
OVER ACTIVE THROAT CHAKRA:
If your throat chakra is over-active you more than likely be over opinionated, perhaps very critical of others and how they are performing in life. You may be verbally abusive to those around you, and may find yourself yelling a lot when not necessary. You won’t allow others to “talk back” or voice their opinions about certain situations, it will be your way or no way.
UNDER ACTIVE THROAT CHAKRA:
When under-active, you will be unable to express yourself and will often be misinterpreted or misunderstood by others. You will probably be “wishy washy” or considered “flakey” or unreliable by the people in your life. Telling the truth and being honest with yourself is something you probably have a difficult time with, and giving mixed messages is likely something that has gotten you into trouble before. Until you find balance within the throat chakra, your life will remain the same – and nothing will ever work out in the way you would like it to.
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF A THROAT CHAKRA IMBALANCE:
Throat lump, laryngitis, sore throat, tonsillitis, teeth problems, thrush, jaw problems (TMJ), earaches, ear problems, sinus infections, thyroid problems, arthritis in shoulders, sore shoulders or arms, neck problems, stress – may also exhibit an alcohol or drug dependency.

Most fruits are high in water content and are an excellent choice when wanting to balance the 5th chakra. Juicing fruits with veggies is also a good way of getting the nutrition necessary to help with this as well.

~THIRD EYE CHAKRA~ (The Anja)
Third Eye, Inner eye or 6th Chakra, this is where we connect to the mental plane of our existence. Our ideas, dreams, goals, values and our “self” image all begin here!
It is by our thoughts that we are able to express ourselves in the world, and it is from our thoughts that we are able to make our dreams a reality!
In developing our inner perception through meditation we begin to understand that all events in our life happen for a reason and we see everything for what it is, not as we think it is. We begin to understand that we are the Dream Weaver in this intricately designed web of reality!
The third eye is our gateway into higher realms of consciousness. When one becomes enlightened you understand fully, without a doubt that we are truly all One and that our idea of separation from one another is nothing more than an illusion.
WHEN YOUR THIRD EYE IS IN BALANCE:
You will begin opening up to Universal Knowledge and truly understand that you are the Creator in your Reality! You will experience Higher states of consciousness, allowing you to astral travel, have out of body experiences, and receive messages from your Spirit Guides, Angels and other Enlightened Beings. You will be very intuitive, have a great memory, and will be able to learn without a problem.
OVER ACTIVE THIRD EYE:
If you have an over active third eye you may experience stress accompanied by frequent headaches that happen in the forehead or temples. You may become delusional and create circumstances in your mind that are not really happening (a mental disease). An individual with over-activity in this chakra may also tend to be judgmental, unsympathetic or over intellectual in their thinking.
UNDER ACTIVE THIRD EYE:
If your third eye is under active you will probably have difficulty in understanding the spiritual side of the world and the connection between your inner and outer reality. You may lack empathy for the people in your life, lack common sense, or intuition. Memory and learning can be affected if the third eye is not balanced.
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF AN IMBALANCE:
Brain cysts, tumors, strokes, blindness, deafness, seizures, insomnia, learning disabilities, spinal dysfunction, panic, depression, addiction, migraines, headaches, dizziness, nausea, sinus problems, ear aches, hormonal imbalance and equilibrium dysfunction.

We should always intuitively eat, as our body knows what it needs. Certain berries, (blueberries and strawberries) are shown to have a positive influence over our memory and ability to learn! Balancing the Crown Chakra
Also known as the 7th or Crown chakra, the Sahasrara is sanskrit for “the lotus flower of 1000 petals”. It’s located at the top of our head, and it is our connection to The Divine, Our Father, just as the root chakra is our connection to Our Mother Earth. It is thought that the Archangel Metatron has govern over our Crown Chakra, bridging the gap between the Divine and Humanity. It is this gateway that connects us both to the physical and non-physical realm of our existence, and it is here that we find Our Divinity and become Enlightened. From this place, we realize that we are truly connected to “All There Is”, and in this knowing comes a Great Compassion for all life, Eternal Bliss and Infinite Wisdom.
We become aware that our life is but an extension of our own consciousness; that we are the dreamer, dreaming the dream. We understand that all manifestations (good and bad) are a result of our thought patterns that become subconscious beliefs – and in knowing this, we can begin to change the dream.
WHEN YOUR CROWN CHAKRA IS IN BALANCE:
You will have a great intuitive knowledge, and will be very wise. You will be aware of your spiritual self and be selflessly devoted to the well-being of others because you see them as a part of you, rather than as separate.
OVER ACTIVE CROWN CHAKRA:
If your crown chakra is over-active you probably will not be able to control your encounters with other realms of existence. You may be considered “far out” there and will have trouble grounding yourself, making it hard for people to take you seriously. Because of an over-activity in this chakra, you may possess a god-complex and consider yourself better than others in the world around you.
UNDER ACTIVE CROWN CHAKRA:
If under-activity or a blockage is happening in your crown chakra you will probably feel like you lack a purpose in life. You may think that it is all meaningless, and in this thinking, will develop a mental “disease”. You may feel unloved, or angry at God, and blame life circumstance on something that is outside of you. Coordination difficulties, clumsiness, or poor balance may result from an underactive crown chakra. New ideas or newer, positive out-looks on life will be hard for you grasp, if you except them at all. You will probably lack spiritual exploration and have no desire to discover your inner self. You may also be excessively afraid of dying:

Sitting or meditating outside and allowing yourself to feel this great energy that is in everything, will help awaken the deepest part of your being.
